This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

CABLE KNIT OF LOVE

(Anonymous)
Has anyone else's wardrobe gained a suspicious amount of cable knit clothing?

If not, how about Bad Ass Long Coats? Umbrellas? Semtex jackets?

Re: CABLE KNIT OF LOVE

i bought a trenchcoat the other day, does that count?

I literally almost cried today when the cable-knit jumper dress I've been waiting to buy for weeks was OUT OF STOCK. Damn you pay-day, why so inconveniently timed?

I do, on the other hand, have the most glorious black coat. No semtex jacket though. Working on that.

There's an umbrella-shaped present for me under our Christmas tree at the moment, and the tag is signed by a Mr M. Holmes.

Yeah, my family is pretty fantastic. :D

I HAVE A BADASS COAT AND AN ARAN BUT I CONSIDERED STEALING MY MOTHER'S ARAN BECAUSE IT LOOKS MORE LIKE JOHN'S (CABLE-WISE).

Re: CABLE KNIT OF LOVE

I have recently acquired a Bad Ass Long Coat with buttons and stuff. I am currently wearing a scarf. Indoors, yes. :D

I've been wearing long black coats in some form or other for... eight years now, because they never go out of style. But only recently have I started turning up the collar on my winter coat (distinguishable from my spring/fall coat mainly in that it's heavy wool rather than cotton). If anyone asks, it's to keep my neck warm if my scarf gaps. WE know the real reason.

I've also had an Aran for ages (five years?) but it's been in a closet for the last two. It's made a triumphant return in the last month, needless to say.

I really want a long coat. I read an article that mentioned that Debenham's was asked about long wool trenches for men as soon as the first episode aired in the UK but when I was there I didn't see any that came close. Belstaff made THE jacket, and for a cool 1500 pounds you too can have one.

I think I'm far more likely to get John Watson's jumper, for between 40 and 100 dollars in yarn (good yarn is expensive) and some time, I can have one just like it, but better, as his was machine knit:

I'm just grateful that someone else wrote the pattern out for me.

I paid thirteen quid at a market for my Bad Ass Long Coat, around Hallowe'en before last. Ankle length. Black leather. Swishy.

I'm going to be fucking buried in it.

Re: CABLE KNIT OF LOVE

I realized just recently that the long coat that I bought in a second hand store in the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco ...oh 20 years ago is suitable. Tweed...a little too grey. It's the wearing of long scarves with it that has become a new thing for me.

I acquired a scarf of approximately the right color, and I've taken to wearing all sufficiently long scarves tucked through like Sherlock. Previously I just looped them haphazardly around and around.

I also bought a stripey jumper that is too large and not well cut for me, but it was only $4 used. I wear it around the house and feel badass like John.

I JUST CAME HOME FROM LONDON WITH A BRAND NEW BLACK WOOLEN FLAREY COAT (http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-sales/11015/10417/OVERCOAT%2BWITH%2BSASH) AND A BLUE SCARF (http://shop.hm.com/gb/shoppingwindow?dept=DAM_ACC_MOS&type=product&modelnum=790521)

AND IT'S THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER WHERE I LIVE

Six months from now noone will notice I'm cosplaying Sherlock.

I am currently knitting a blue scarf that combines two of my favorite fandoms: Sherlock and Bioshock. I'm alternating between knits and purls to write the letters and place objects (e.g. syringe, violin) on the field.

It's going to be epic.

Thing is, my interest in knitting was reawakened by the above mentioned link with knitting instructions for John's jumper. I don't have the skillage yet to tackle that, but I'm getting there bit by bit. This fandom is inspiring like that.

Well, I got it before I jumped into the wonderful realm of Sherlock, but I do have a badass longcoat which I love way too much. I think it looks like the lovechild of this coat:

and this coat:

But now I wear it with a scarf and the collar up for extra Sherlockesque badassery. And sometimes I even wear it with my cable knit sweater.

I bought a shorter version of Sherlocks coat.. before I have even watched the series. Now I also own a scarf like his, only green. xD
