This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

Re: Dümdüm.

(Anonymous)
There was some fangirling on my flist after the premiere and I added it to my "watch this, maybe someday" list. Then a friend posted a lengthy rant about the treatment of women and the overt and problematic orientalism and exoticization in the second episode, which is actually what prompted me to watch it much sooner. I ended up largely agreein with her, but my abject love for most of the rest of the series means I'm here anyway. (Said friend, I think, also enjoyed most of the rest of the series, but TBB was a deal-breaker for her.)

Many people had their problems with TBB. I usually skip it when re-watching.

Yeah, I know the general opinion is even among people not particularly bothered by problematic race and sex and cultural fetishization issues that it's not a very good episode (it isn't, but then the plotting of A Study in Pink isn't very good, either, because it makes the world's most brilliant detective look dimmer than all of us peons watching at home and shouting "the cabbie, you idiot!")

There are a few cute moments in TBB, but I rewatched it once and that's plenty.
