This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

I have never done cocaine. Have any of you? Care to share your experiences? I can't write Sherlock-on-cocaine without getting some input to at least appear as if I've done my research.

This site is very good for getting experiences of all sorts of substances.

I've given you the link to coke, but they have everything I've ever wanted to look up.

Oh, that's an awesome link! Ta for that.

Drugs fascinate me. I know I have an addictive personality though, which would make experimenting with them a rather bad idea indeed.

I have but I don't know if snorting it is significantly different from injecting it. Injecting is certainly the least common method of taking it.

I think the main effect of taking coke, for me anyway, was feeling incredibly confident and feeling (no, KNOWING) for absolute certain that I was the best person in the world.
It was pretty great.

Like the above anon, I have never injected cocaine. Since smoking and snorting have different effects (smoking gives a more immediate rush of shorter duration), I'd think injecting is also different.

Anyway, I'll try to describe what snorting cocaine was like for me. Note that the effects altered over time.

When cocaine was new and fun, being high was the best feeling in the world. I was confident, talkative and very active. People were more interesting and the world seemed brighter and sharper. I also had no sex drive (not that I've much of one now) and no appetite for food.

After a while, taking cocaine made me more miserable than anything else ever has. By the time I quit, I'd have a five minute "high" followed by a twelve hour comedown during which I was shaky, exhausted, and unable to sleep.

Hope this helps.

Yep, I agree with everything there.

I might add that I snorted with a first timer who said that the high was like ecstasy (a brighter, sharper world, your body feels nimble and everyone is more fun) but you can actually function on coke. I'm certain I could go to work high and no one would notice; better yet, I wouldn't be paranoid about being noticed because I'd be confident as hell.

Tell you what, though. It's a rich person's drug through and through. I imagine it would be more expensive in the UK than where I live (southeastern US) just because of its distance from South America.

Thank god for anonymous

I always like to describe it in my head with a cold rush of wind in your veins. Sometimes it makes you feel like flying, sometimes it chills you so bad you have to curl up in the corner and all you can do is wait.

As for the snorting vs. injecting argument, coke is a popular club drug for people who are experimenting, and needles are scary. If you're experimenting, you don't want anything to do with needles. But if you're more committed, then needles are a cleaner high. The comedown is easier, the high lasts a little longer and the rush is better.

Chances are, though, if you're into needles, at least three of your friends are junkies, and you're doing alot more than coke. But Holmes was into Morphine in ACD, right?
