This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

Warning: CONTAINS SPOILERS... for a story published in 1893

Re: Warning: CONTAINS SPOILERS... for a story published in 1893

Bahah, oh Mark... XD

Hello you wonderful people!

Non-native speaker here trying to write a fic: the opening scene is set in a laboratory with two ~mystery men~ wearing white labcoats... The problem is I think the word "labcoat" is American: am I wrong? And if I'm not wrong, what's the British counterpart of a labcoat?

Thanks in advance for the help! ;)

Re: Brit-picking question

I'm British, I work in a lab. I call it a labcoat.

seeking a beta/brit-picker

Hello, I have been hanging around the meme for a few months now and am embarrassed to admit I have a few WIP's languishing that I very much want to complete.

so, if anyone's interested in basic SPAG/brit-picking/encouragement or has any more specific questions about what I'm looking for beta-wise, I can be contacted by PM or thru tygermama@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time.

Re: seeking a beta/brit-picker

Sorry for not contacting you via your requested routes, but my computer's a bit dodgy right now and this is easier. =)

I'd be interested in considering it, but first, may I ask the general topics of the stories? I don't want to waste your time only for it to turn out that I'm not able to work with your subject matter (i.e I wouldn't be comfortable editing explicit scenes or overt slash), but I'd love to have a go!

Working on a fic with karaoke and need a song for Lestrade to sing. I don't know if Rupert can sing for real or not but I imagine he's not too shabby, so I need a song that will fit! Any and all suggestions welcome! ;)

Tainted Love.

Doctorly Type People

No context for this fic, but I need to know, if you stick a finger up the butt of someone who's sleeping/unconscious, would they be tighter or looser than someone who's consciously relaxing?

Re: Doctorly Type People

(God, I love this meme. XD)

Not a doctorly-type person in any sense, but I believe - at least during REM sleep - your muscles relax completely. I'd imagine that would make it looser.

I think I need some hugs, guys.

I just realized what bothers me about the very spoilery photo from the Sun, and why, for the first time, I had a nightmare about something that happened 13 years ago.

Because in one of my photo albums there is an eerily similar photo and I'm in Sherlock's position. And now I'm wondering how I feel about the next series.

I haven't seen the photo because I'm avoiding spoilers like the plague, but I'm sorry to hear it caused you distress ;A;

A question for the Brits re: shops and music

Do they play music in grocery stores there? Or in other stores, really?

Re: A question for the Brits re: shops and music

The bigger supermarkets play pop music in the background which is rarely what I need on a Sunday morning when I do my food shop. A greengrocer's/butcher's/newsagent's/corner shop wouldn't, though. High street shops play music most of the time using those shop radio sort of things and hairdresser's and smaller shops tend to have the actual radio on, but that's usually the preference of whoever owns the place. Hope this helped! :)

Is there are word for me too?

Meme, I turn to you for advice because you're all the most accepting, diverse and knowledgeable group of people I've come across.

Since being in this fandom, I've learned more about not only sexualities but also that people can be a/bi/hetero/homo/etc-romantic.

I know that everybody has a different stance on labelling people in these terms. For me, the labels aren't important for other people but I like to pin down and label myself, even if it is only in my mind.

The things is I can't figure out if I fall into a category regarding romantic orientation. I know I am bisexual but have noticed that while i find myself attracted to people in a superficial way, it is very, very rare for me to find myself emotionally attracted to someone. Attracted to them in the way I can say I like like them. Butterflies and sweaty palms and all that.

So far it has happened only twice (once a guy a few years ago and once a girl). Neither time resulting in anything, firstly because my attraction to the guy went away quite quickly and as far as I know, the girl doesn't return my feelings.

It's really confusing me because I can see myself in a hypothetical romantic relationship (and I'd be an awesome girlfriend) and I'd like it, so I don't feel like I'm aromantic but I definitely don't fall for people easily.

Sorry this is long-winded and sounds disjointed. It's really hard to put into words because it does confuse me so much.

Re: Is there are word for me too?

If you find people attractive, but not attractive enough that you lust for them until you develop an emotional connection, that could be demisexuality.

If you're looking for a label primarily because there needs to be something you can put on that "sexuality" dotted line, but you don't really fit anything out there, have you considered pomosexuality?

Impersonal age question

Hello meme!

Sorry if I sound rude, but, can I get some anon!ages thrown at me? I realize there has to be a huge range, but I'm trying to figure out exactly where I am in that range. Help me out?

Re: Impersonal age question

21 here.

For all you obsessives out there: any tricks on finding relief sans meds? I've been on for almost 10 years (for something different) and really don't want to up my dose or introduce another medication. Psychotherapy is not an option right now.

Any help would be appreciated.

That should be, "I've been on Paxil for almost 10 years..."

As an ESL speaker I was under the impression that taxi = British English, and cab = American English, but the many times Sherlock uses a cab, rather than a taxi, has me confused. Enlighten me?

Re: Taxicab

I get the sense that both are used (in both British and American English), but as an American I can say that I hear people use "taxi" more often than "cab".

Any trans* fans out there? I'd love to internet-chill with some of you people. I'm FTM-spectrum genderqueer, and I went through a phase where I thought I couldn't be a slash fan and a boy at the same time. o.o Sad time in my life.
So yeah! Say hi! Any stories about being trans* in fandom?

Hey there! I'm a trans man. :) I've been through similar phases in the past... not to mention the phases where I felt things like that and reacted by trying to force myself to be happy as a woman. Ha! Yeah, right.

I'm wondering if there are any other trans* people here. Say hi! I'd love to internet-chill with you guys- tell stories about fandom, bitch about cissexism, all that fun stuff.
*waves* I identify as an FTM-spectrum genderqueer. I went through this phase where I thought I couldn't be a slash fan and a boy at the same time... yeah. o.o Not a happy time in my life. Anyways, I'm back now! <3

Is it time to count down?

Re: Is it time to count down?

Before this is full, I need to freak out a little because I totally nearly missed the German version of Sherlock which will be on tonight.

WAAAAAAAAAH FREAKOUT In case it sucks I will beat somebody up. And by beat up I mean be very angry with.

Now, continue with the countdown.

Bye bye baby
