This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

Random observation re "Frasier"

Watching Frasier re-runs. There's a slightly cranky, down-to-earth guy with a limp, who has to deal with two pretentious, over-educated and over-dressed brothers and a chatty, laid-back housekeeper.

If only I could think what this reminds me of...

Re: Random observation re "Frasier"

A winning formula, apparently...

Opening scenes of S2?

I'm sure there's been a discussion or two about the possible plots of the second season (and the clues given by Moffat) but I figure we can always have more. So, what are you visions for the opening scenes/episode of season 2?

Being the sucker for angst and heartbreak that I am, I'd love for the episode to start with Sherlock's funeral (which would also give us John in a suit). Something along the lines of The Empty House in the 21st century, I guess...? Anyway, and then when Sherlock comes back to Baker Street John promptly punches him in the fucking face. Because I don't know about you, but I would place "letting your best friend think you're dead" in the Top 5 list of assholiness, and John needs to let out some righteous anger (possibly after fainting, but still).

Re: Opening scenes of S2?

It would be a lovely opening. I'm afraid, however, that they're holding back the Reichenbach thing for the next third episode so that we'll have to wait another year to know if John punches Sherlock. Which he definitely should , and I think someone issued a prompt to this effect some time ago. Hope it will be filled.

My wishful vision, which will never be realized, is that the pool implodes under the CROWD of people stomping in because they could put two and two together, reading Sherlock's blog, and associate "the pool" with the previous entry about "Carl Powers"'s shoes. Cue Mycroft and not!Anthea, cue a bevy of government representatives ready to barter for the missile plan, THE FANGIRLS, Mrs Hudson with a teapot, Lestrade and the Yarders, etc.

In the ensuing confusion, Moriarty manages to pass himself for a slightly bearded fangirl, sing-songs "Game OVER!" and disappears with a dignified cackle, only missing the Hudson teapot by an inch. Anderson falls into the pool, John makes out with Lestrade out of sheer relief and Mycroft gives Sherlock a piece of his mighty mind while the fangirls tango their way out with the remaining snipers.

... Oh well a girl can dream.

Tell me your confusing turn-ons, Meme

I am a lesbian. However, I find some m/m porn scorchingly hot. I cannot explain this to myself. WTF BRAIN.

Anyone else found themselves side-eyeing their own turn-ons like this?

Re: Tell me your confusing turn-ons, Meme

People with, like, science degrees and stuff have done studies on this: "In contrast to men, both heterosexual and lesbian women tend to become sexually aroused by both male and female erotica, and, thus, have a bisexual arousal pattern." (http://www.futurepundit.com/archives/001393.html) I'm a straight girl into monogamy, but I have found good m/m, f/f, and threesomes all really hot.

Also, lesbians being into slash is such a common thing that it's now a trope all its own. You're in good company.

What is your reaction when one of your favourite stories update?

Depending on my energy levels, I either squeal in glee or I smile hugely. I don't think anyone literally flails, as much as commenters claim they do.

Re: What is your reaction when one of your favourite stories update?

I flail. Literally. Waggle my arms and everything. So there :P

Sometimes I even hyperventilate.

(i'm a very excitable person. You should have seen me after that 1 1/2 minute Doctor Who teasery thing they released the other day.)

Heroin question

Does anyone know if it's possible to pre-prepare a syringe of heroin in advance, or do you have to inject it straight after cooking it?

...man, as if my google history wasn't incriminating enough, I go and ask something like this...

Have you ever compared yourself to the characters on the show?

I sometimes compare myself to Mycroft.

Looking at my greasy hair that I have been neglecting to wash for days, I sometimes think of Mycroft, how impeccable, clean he looks on the show, and what he would say if he saw me like this, and I feel so inadequate. I mean he's just a fictional character, and yet I can't stop comparing myself to him sometimes. :'( WHY.

Re: Have you ever compared yourself to the characters on the show?

I feel inadequate compared to most of the characters on the show. Except Anderson. In so many ways, I am Anderson D:

Hello! Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong places, but I can't seem to find h/c fics that are long (long being 1500+ words). Can anyone rec me h/c fics? No specific pairings or characters.

Thank youuuu

Non-con warning. John is raped by Moriarty. The fic deals almost entirely with the fallout, and is exceptionally well written.

Brit Pickish Question re: colloquial saying

Is the saying "Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses" or an equivalent used in the UK? I'm almost done with a fic where that's a saying and I just realized that I have no idea if that's even used, lol. It's used here but not often and usually as a mean tease.

Re: Brit Pickish Question re: colloquial saying

I've not heard the phrase itself used that much, but the saying - and the sentiment - are both well known here.

I've just noticed that not even a quarter of all the prompts I'm tracking, going back as far as part VIII, have been filled. This makes me have a sad.

In going back through my list of subscriptions, I've decided that today is going to be a day of much writing. Even if it's just a few hundred words, I've decided to try to fill as many as I can.

Anyone care to join me in making this a day of many fills?

I applaud your good resolution! But I'm too slow a writer to join you - mine, right now, is to fill my prompt within the next two weeks - can't promise more, except to look for another when I'm done.

Good luck with the many fills!

What was the most, er, iconoclastic treatment you inflicted upon a character or saw inflicted upon them?

I put Moran in a cassock. (And felt a bit like "thank god he's just fiction" at the time. An incensed - oh dear - Sebastian I do not want to tackle.)

Link or parole. By which I mean, I want to read it! I love anything ecclesiastical.

Uh, on the risk of roping someone else into the pain that is never-finished WIPs... Does anyone know if this dark!AU fic was ever finished anywhere?

"Unus Mundus": http://sherlockbbc-fic.livejournal.com/4076.html?thread=12236012#t12236012

The part's maxed out and the author anonymous so I don't quite know where to look even if there is more.

That's one of two dark!AUs that I followed and which were never finished. :( I haven't seen it continued anywhere else, anon. The writer stopped updating long before the post maxed out, I think.

I need the terms for the positions from a rookie cop to Detective Inspector. Like, all the promotions and jobs inbetween please. And if there's a possibility of a quick description, I'd owe you a ton!

As an afterthought, could I please know the name of Lestrade's boss?

Crazy ass pairings?

What are the weirdest pairings you've read or written in this fandom?

Or any other fandom, for that matter.

Re: Crazy ass pairings?

I don't want to say any pairing is 'weird'. Everyone is entitled to their ships.

That said, I did once read a fic with Sherlock and John's phones falling in love and having, literally, phone sex. It was cute XD

Sherlock and romance

Does anyone else see Sherlock as aromantic? I've read many interesting fics that portray Sherlock as asexual but not aromantic, but in my personal head!canon it's the other way around. Well, I could see him as asexual, sexual but celibate, or even as a ONS/friends-with-benefits kind of guy, but I can't picture him in a romantic relationship at all.

Anyone else feel that way?

Re: Sherlock and romance

I do too. I see him more as asexual and aromantic. Or as a ONS/friends-with-benefits guy for shallow, porn-based reasons. There are also some wonderfully written fics with romantic Sherlock that I enjoyed reading very much, but it doesn't sit with my personal head!canon.

If they made a spinoff series for your favorite character, which character would be your choice?

I would definitely go for Mycroft. He's a BAMF and according to Sherlock, he also sometimes works for CIA too. Wouldn't it be fun to see him working with Americans? And there's Anthea too. She would definitely make for an interesting character if given enough screen time, I think.

But also I love Lestrade too. I mean in canon Sherlock himself says that Lestrade is the best detective in Scotland Yard. So I think it would be interesting to see him investigating his own cases without Sherlock's help for once.

And each show's title should be 'Mycroft' and 'Lestrade'.
But i think as a title for TV show, 'Mrs Hudson' is much cooler.

Re: If they made a spinoff series for your favorite character, which character would be your choice?

I love Mycroft but think he is genuinely a pen-pusher who does all the brainy stuff for people who take the credit. I would still watch a programme that was just him sitting at his desk, maybe sneaking a chocolate, maybe having a nap. It'd be like a high-brow and fictional version of reality tv.

I do enjoy a good detective show though, so Lestrade having his own series would be brilliant.
