This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

What other fandoms are you actively involved in right now? I think I need a knew distraction while I'm waiting for S2.

Inception. I'm kind of on my way out, though, because it's slowed down enough that there's never really any new fic or anything for my pairing (which isn't the most popular one).

“Blabla,” he said.

“Blabla,” he answered.

Test test test. Oh God, are those inverted now??? :(

How do I switch those off? I want the normal "blabla" in word, not the weird ones up there!!! Help anyone?

shipping

(Anonymous)
Inspired by a comment in a discussion above:

Is there a character you can ship with just about anybody? Conversely, is there a character you can only ever ship with one person?

I ship and adore John with pretty much everyone, including characters from other shows/movies/books, but I absolutely cannot ship Sherlock with anyone except John. I have no idea why.

I am exactly the same. John just goes so well with EVERYONE. In fact there are some pairings I really do not like; introduce John to the mix and hello kink!

Does anyone have any recommendations for Sherlock twitter RPs? I'm not sure which ones to follow.

I like SherlockSH and co; they seem to more actively do things than just having random conversations.

Is this one of you?

DAMN MY FINGERS! I MUST STOP TYPING "MORIARTIES" FOR "MORIARTY'S".

THAT'S ONLY CORRECT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW MANY JAMES MORIARTIES ARE IN THIS DAMN STORY ANYWAY.

the country with crazy cable network that made homoerotic Sherlock trailers

(Anonymous)
I used the subject phrase on three separate occasions as a part of introduction (of sorts) and that was enough for people to know which country I used to live in. Apparently more people than I thought saw the said trailers.

Mark Gatiss retweeted a link to them; I think they're pretty well-known :-D

Non-Fandom related

(Anonymous)
I'm really sorry to put this here, I'm just so distraught

I've been really freaked out today because one of my friends has gone missing while canoeing. He was out with two other people and their canoe capsized. The other two made it to shore okay, but he never turned up. Police boats and helicopters were searching for hours with no luck, and everyone is worried sick.

And it's all just so shocking. I mean, he had just come home from Univeristy for spring break. He's one of most genuinely kind and decent people I know, I can't even imagine having him gone.

Re: Non-Fandom related

Oh gods... I'm so sorry to hear this! For what good it may do, I'm thinking and praying and hoping good things that he is found safe!

This is my favourite. Manju is Punjabi so it may not be the same recipe as you get in Indian restaurants which are often Pakistani rather than Indian. Her whole site is full of fantastic recipes plus there are restaurant reviews (for the UK) and other foodie posts.

Mystrade recs?

(Anonymous)
Okay, so I try to get this pairing and totally can't, and at the moment I am short before the point were I start to dislike it, because it seems to turn up everywhere I turn. And I don't want this.

I would like to have some recs, but preferably not something were Mycroft and Lestrade already know each other and/or get along or have the hots for each other the moment they meet. Something with a drawn out built up to the relationship, preferably with Lestrade being bisexual and being married to a woman before, perhaps even with Mycroft and Lestrade not really liking each other at first? Is there something like this? Should I prompt it if not? Can you lovely people help me out? I'd really be infinitely grateful!

Re: Mystrade recs?

(Anonymous)
I don't know of any, but I am seconding your request, if that's possible. :P I would really love to have a good, long head-canon for Mycroft/Lestrade for when I read fics where there's an established relationship. This is necessary for my full enjoyment of the fandom!

Is there an equivalent to the idiom "being on/falling off the wagon" with regard to being clean and sober/relapsing related to drug or alcohol addiction? Or do you just use those phrases?

Re: Brit-pick Question

(Anonymous)
We use those phrases. At least, we do in the South-East and I'm assuming they're wide-spread.

Meme, could I get some hugs? Please? Not feeling so good right now and no one here to talk to.

Bakerstreet question.

(Anonymous)
In the series they use Bakerstreet N1, and when i was in London I noticed that also on badges sold for tourists. But I also see Bakerstreet NW1 being used (the 2009 movie among others).

Which one is correct for Bakerstreet 221B?

Re: Bakerstreet question.

(Anonymous)
*I just checked ASiP and they use W1. N1 would be much east- Islignton area. So I'll just go with W1 and NW1 ;-)

Baker Street is quite a long road which lies across NW1 and W1. So up till some part of the street, the road sign would say Baker Street "W1". But by the time 221 shows up, it would be saying NW1. (If you look up the Google map, 186 Baker Street already falls into NW1 district.)

So NW1 is correct for 221B. However, because of the reason above, general "Baker Street" road sign plaques and badges may say "W1" as well. (And if you wanted to put up a road sign at the start of the block where 221 is on, as in the series, I really think it should have been NW1.)

Is there any non-native speakers here now?

(Anonymous)
Is there any particular accent of the cast that you find difficult to understand?

I sometimes find Martin's accent hard to understand. I miss some lines time to time, though I usually catch the lines the second time around. And when Sherlock starts rattling off his deductions at neck break speed, I feel like I'm lowering the IQ of the whole street. :/ Anyway that's why I sometimes watch them with subtitles.

Re: Is there any non-native speakers here now?

(Anonymous)
Yes, me too. And sometimes Lestrade gives me a bit trouble too. Moriarty on the other hand is the only one I really don't have any problems understanding. But Sherlock? Ugh, I love listening to his voice, but I really need to concentrate to understand him when he starts talking fast.

I just thought I'd plug the minifundraiser watsons_woes is doing. Lots of people (including some who are regulars on this meme) are offering Sherlock/Sherlock Holmes related icons and fic, yours for the requesting, and all it takes is the purchase of a Help Japan V-gift.

Please considering signing up to donate or purchasing a V-gift and making a request.

Read all about it here:

Re: Help Japan fundraiser

(Anonymous)
Is it dead already? D: It's a shame because it's a nice idea. I don't really go beyond this little corner of fandom so I don't know where else to plug it.
