Sherlock BBC Prompting Meme

Discussion/Chatter Post
Giggles at the Palace
This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

I love this meme because it makes me feel like a bad writer.

I hate this meme because it makes me feel like a bad writer.

I couldn't decide whether this should go on the love or the rant post.

That is all.

Are you remembering to put an extra return between paragraphs? Take ten seconds to spell check? If so, welcome aboard!

(I admit it, I've got standards. My standards are pretty low, but they exist).

Anxious anon from the Prompt Freeze Fail club here. Heard there were some hugs up for grabs?

Some... advice would also be nice. I don't quite know how to deal with people in my friend's position (her mother's long illness might be coming to an end. Might not be the happy one we were all hoping for.)

The best thing you can do for your friend is be there. Try not to treat her like glass, but understand when she needs to break. Hugs are good. There's a social overload that happens with end-of-life stuff, families and memorials, she will probably need to be alone more often to compensate from the emotional pressure. She might snap or lash out. Don't take it personally when she does. Let her know you are there for her, and drop an email now and then. She might seem perfectly fine, don't act like that's weird, because it isn't.

Basically, be available, be her friend. You're already doing it. :)

Delicious Index of Unfilled Prompts!

So there was some discussion of doing this, and I don't know if anyone else has taken charge (I think oxfordtweed was working on something?) but I thought I'd make an official discussion post re: creating some kind of archive of unfilled prompts for the week-long freeze. Get some attention for things that might've been buried in the rush, you know?

If this post just exists for someone to say "I'M ALREADY ON IT STFU" that's cool too. :-)

Re: Delicious Index of Unfilled Prompts!

I was thinking we should also have a post page for unfilled prompts in filled threads, 'cause just listing the unfilled prompts in parts one and three (and very soon two, four, and, five) can be a problem if you can't fill it there and putting the fill in a later post can get unwieldy and take up space for that posts prompts. So start a new post and just start listing them there, that way they're organized, easy to find, and easy to fill.

So, I just read through the syllabus for my Abnormal Psychology class that starts Monday, and in lieu of a final exam we get to do a final project ANALYZING A FICTIONAL CHARACTER'S PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDER(S).

I guess the only question I need to decide is, John's PTSD or Sherlock's (purported) sociopathy?

Sherlock. He's more symptomatic.

Do brits use ziplock bags? And if not, what do they use as a substitute? I'm trying to have a character make an icebag, and my research is coming up dry.

Re: Brit pick/culture

Are they the plastic grip seal ones? Because you can get those in supermarkets. I don't know what the brand names are.

fem!slash & rec meme?

since we're in a prompt freeze, will you link me to your favorite Sherlock fem!slash fics? can be Molly/Sally, could be gender-bender, I'm not all that picky...

on another note, is there a better place to ask/post recs?

So...I'm probably late to the party, but I just read the season two teaser and am heartbroken. MY HEART CAN'T HANDLE THE THIRD WORD. And no doubt it will end on an awful cliffhanger that will take FOREVER (to impatient me) to resolve and there will be pain and omg. I'm already in a fandom that stresses me out so much I wish to take up drinking, DNW another.

Don't be sad, anon. Just think of all the epic fic it'll produce?

Any role players around?

I'm looking for some role players for a group a friend and I have started on Facebook for BBC's Sherlock.

We already have a Sherlock, a John, a Mycroft, an Anthea and a Mrs Hudson, but we're currently looking for other players to play even the smallest of characters. We're pretty desperate, actually. It seems finding quality role players on Facebook is almost impossible if you don't know where to look.

We're not extremely picky. At this rate, we'll take what we can get.
All we request is that you are familiar with the character you're interested in playing, are capable of using spell-check and can just keep up in general. When we're bored, we play around with modernizing some of the original ACD stories, so if you're familiar with those that would be useful too, but not mandatory.

[If you are interested in playing an Anthea, we already have a profile made up, but her Handler will be more than happy to pass her on to someone capable.]

If any of this is piquing your interest, here are the profile we have to far:
Sherlock: http://www.facebook.com/SherlockHolmesbbc/
John: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001611080121#!/profile.php?id=100001611080121
Mycroft: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001611080121#!/profile.php?id=100001449027373
Anthea: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001611080121#!/profile.php?id=100001981035435
Mrs. Hudson: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001611080121#!/profile.php?id=100001353538924

Please! Don't be shy. We're genuinely excited for anyone who would like to try. If you know someone else who might like be interested, then send them over! Just reply or send me a message.

Someone on the rant post was talking about the word 'gob' (shut your gob, or something). Is it possible Sherlock would ever use this word? If he was grumpy or angry? Or is it just that low class?

Deus ex Mycroft is my new favorite phrase.

But shouldn't it rather be Mycroft ex Machina?

Brit pick questions.

Writing H/C

1) Flu: do you call it that or, something else?

2) Thermometer: same name?

3) If someone looks like hell, what would you say?

4) Where would one take someone (either John or Sherlock in this case) who has passed out from fever?

5) If an individual is found to have the flu, would a doctor recommend that individual stay in the hospital? Would it it be a hospital that they would stay at?

6) Liquids: "Juice" is it called that? Is tea to cliche?

7) Does the/would the flat have a bathtub?

Thank you!!

Re: Brit pick questions.

I can't imagine a doctor recommending someone go to hospital for the flu unless there were a persistent *dangerously* high fever or they were dehydrated enough to require intravenous fluids. Both of which are rather unlikely for a normal flu.

Do remember fevers would be in Celcius though!

What pairing, and where should we be looking to stalk the h/c?

I think I just found young!Mycroft

Where are the pics from? :)

Fuck me, Mycroft just gave me my name. My actual name. And it's not a common name at all... also, Johompany. Yeah.

So... is Mycroft making anyone else paranoid, or is it just me?

(Now, he's calling me a pitiable Mizzatak. Thanks, man.)

It's kinda scary how omnipotent Mycroft can be. I had a really crappy day recently, and the captcha had the word "sadface" in it, and I was like, "HOW DID YOU KNOW???"

I try to tell myself that it's random. But you never know... o.o

(Current Captcha: "was Matemen" ...mate men? I WAS TALKING ABOUT DATING EARLIER. OMFG, MYCROFT, STOP IT.)

So...I'm not sure if there's a more appropriate place for this, but does anyone remember a prompt about John opening a bakery and this leading to Mycroft ruining his diet and Sherlock getting fat? Can someone point me to it if they know it? I've been thinking about it but I don't guess I tracked it or bookmarked it. :/ I wanted to see if it had been filled and I've already searched but I suck at finding things, apparently.

We demand Fatlock!
