This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

MARRY SHAG CLIFF

(Anonymous)
ANDERSON, DONOVAN AND THE CABBIE.

Re: MARRY SHAG CLIFF

(Anonymous)
Marry the Cabbie because he cares about his kids. Shag Donovan because UNF. Cliff Anderson because someone has to be cliffed so infidelity punts him over. Further info on Anderson might change his position though.

Re: Question for everyone!

(Anonymous)
It has certainly aggravated the morbidity-quotient of my jokes and conversations. My friends have some very questionable ideas too, though, so it's all fine.

Chronically misspelling Arthur Andersen as Anderson.
Abusing obviously and bored.
Dinosaurs. Just... dinosaurs.

Randomness is Random

DAGNABBIT!

There is a prompt on here about a recipe for eggnog that's rumoured to get you absolutely hammered after one glass and I seriously, seriously want the recipe.

For research purposes, of course.

Theoretical Hammered Eggnog

(Anonymous)
This is only a suggestion and completely untested. Off the top of my head, possibly:

1/2 Bailey's
1/4 Advocaat
1/4 Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum

Could be a shooter, could be shaken or blended with ice and milk. You'd have to experiment on the proportions and you might get a more eggnoggy effect if you took a bottle of plain overproof rum and did a nutmeg infusion (by putting loads of whole nutmegs in the bottle and letting it sit for a long while) instead of the Captain Morgan's.

If anyone tries this, let me know if it's any good; it's been a long time since I did theoretical mixology. XD

Classics

(Anonymous)
So I've been seeing it here and there and yonder--how many of y'all are Classics geeks?

Re: Classics

(Anonymous)
*raises hand*

Classics geek born and raised. Topics relating to Ancient Rome are my favourites, but I'm certainly no stranger to the Greek side of things.

Comment limits?

(Anonymous)
I keep going to fics from the delicious page, reading them, and trying to comment-- and the post has reached its maximum limit. In other kink memes the prompting stops at 5000 comments, to allow for fills and, perhaps more importantly, comments. I love comments, I won't lie, and I love leaving them. It's a bummer to want to tell someone you loved their fic and as they're anon you can't even send a message to them. Is there any chance that future posts will close prompting at, say, the 5000 comment limit, to allow for more commenting over time?

Re: Comment limits?

(Anonymous)
We've been running through prompt posts very quickly. What about separating prompts from fills? So it'd be like this:

A prompt post where people post prompts and talk about prompts and stuff -- with the usual prompt freezes

A fill post where writers post the prompt they're filling (with maybe a backlink to it) followed by the fill itself, and people comment on it there; and then a new post can go up when the old one's at 7000 comments or something, without any freezes of course. And this way people can read all the new fills for the meme at one location, without having to go to different pages, and there should be plenty of comment buffer for new comments, and stuff.

The old filled prompts post, for delicious archiving and whatever else

Opinion?

After I've read several fics where one of our characters speaks French, now I wonder what other languages do you find beautiful to hear. Beside French I mean. I'm sort of a self proclaimed language geek meaninng I constantly try to learn new languages. Now I think I'm in love with Portuguese. The language is absolutely beautiful.
It sounds like a bit of spanish and a bit of French mixed together. hmmm<3

And I love German too.
Actually thinking of learning it too.

So which language do you wish to see one of our characters to speak?

Any of the romance languages. Especially Italian. God. *swoons* Spanish (as spoken in the Iberian Peninsula, not North America) would be lovely, as well.

And for whatever reason, I find Russian rather sexy, too.

I can't get behind German being romantic. It's too guttural. Everything sounds like the speaker is angry and swearing.

I hate auto correct.
Why am I posting this here? I don't know.
I hate chapcha too. Whenever I try to type in some greek or latin in the box to prove that I'm human the danmed auto correct changes it into some other word.

Mycroft I hate you. Why do you have to torture me with those unreadable chaptchas? cuz I'm too creepy? cuz I stalk you?
You can not possibly run away from me. I'm persistant.

DON'T SAY YOU HATE MYCROFT! THINK OF WHAT HE CAN DO TO YOU. o.O

That being said, Mycroft Captcha is a little frustrating.

...great, now he's giving me Greek.

I have a question!

Is it easy to get a gun and illegal drugs like Cocain in London?
As far as I know the British goverment(Not Mycroft, mind you)has banned all guns in the UK hence it must be hard to get one's hands on a gun at least hader than in the states I assume.

But it seems that Sherlock has a gun and even knows how to use it.(using both hands to hold the gun to steady the barrel in TGG, etc)

So How do you think? Where do you think sherlock learned to use guns and got it from?

My thoughts on the subject of the UK and gun laws and Sherlock are this:

We're obviously in a universe where what Sherlock does (simple forensics and psychological profiling) are apparently unique and awe-worthy, despite the time period and the fact that there is a forensics unit working with them (see Anderson). And, we've seen no evidence that the UK's current gun laws exist in this universe (no mention was made of the gun used on the cabbie was illegal, and in the unaired pilot, Sherlock first asks Lestrade if the shooter was one of theirs, and the fact that Sherlock was shooting the wall in Baker Street without anyone flipping out over the existence of the gun itself) Also, John kept his gun before meeting Sherlock, which leads me to believe it was perfectly legal, because B.S.H. John (Before Sherlock Holmes) doesn't seem like the type to blatantly flout the laws he swore to give his life to uphold. Speaking of John and soldiering, this universe is also one that seems to not have that pesky little thing like the fact that the Geneva Convention expressly states that medical personnel are non-combatants.

Sherlock is literally ACD's canon in the 21st century will essentially no regard for advances in police procedure or societal changes (obviously, as we've seen, there are several updates they've made, but nothing that takes away from the essence of either Sherlock or John; hence why John is still considered a soldier, and Sherlock's skills are still considered unique)

Does that actually help? Or was it too ranty?

What do y'all think is the truth about the cabbie's pills? Had Sherlock figured out the strategy so he was about to take the harmless pill? Was he taking a total 50/50 chance with his life? Or do you believe the Princess Bride scenario, where both pills are poison but the cabbie has built up immunity or taken an antidote?

TBH I think Sherlock was guessing. The way he asked the dying cabbie "Was I right?!" made me believe that he didn't really know which pill was harmless.

please explain to me

(Anonymous)
mycroft/lestrade

also, moriarty/moran, seeing as how moran isn't even canon in this incarnation of the SH stories.

Re: please explain to me

(Anonymous)
Mycroft/Lestrade. I like both characters. I think it's probably they have met or at least are peripherally aware of one another. I'd like to see them meet and I think that they would get on quite well. And exploring the what ifs is what fanfiction is for.

Moriarty/Moran - people like the original canon, they like trying to reinterpret things from it in the BBC 'verse. Moran is one of those things. It's like asking for a rewrite of the Red Headed League or the Greek Interpreter. Again, it's a what if. There are so many more of them when you've got multiple 'verses of the same canon. You see it in other fandoms when they have an 'alternate universe' episode (such as The End/What Is and What Should Never Be in Spn, or any one of the numerous 'they're in an asylum' episodes from a million different fandoms). People take ideas from canon!canon, piece them together with other!canon and then shake them up into a delightful cocktail of what if.

Who's iced over? Who's snowed in? Who's outside playing in the snow and who's snuggled up inside with a fireplace and hot chocolate?
