This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

Warning: The following is almost as addictive as tvtropes

(Anonymous)
Still with me? Did you bother looking at that helpful subject line?

Well, can't say I didn't warn you:

Cracked.com does Sherlock. Oh yeah. (http://www.cracked.com/funny-1108-sherlock-holmes/)

Re: Warning: The following is almost as addictive as tvtropes

NO NO NOOO NOT CRACKED! I

...Am apparently safe, because I can't reach the close button for the stupid 'DURRRRR WE SHALL PUT A MOVING GRAY BOX ON THIS PAGE' ad in my mobile browser. Whew.

Until I next use a computer, that is.

I'm new to this prompt meme thing. Is it considered rude to fill your own prompt?

Re: Newbie question

(Anonymous)
Well, if you post either the prompt or the fill anon, who's to know?

Even if not, I don't see the harm, especially if you let a few days go by and don't get any other takers. If you prompt just to fill it yourself right away some folks might roll their eyes but I don't think anyone would come after you with pitchforks or anything.

probably a dumb question but...

(Anonymous)
If you've filled a prompt and then later worked on it some more (cleaned it up, added to it, whatever) and are thinking of posting it to your LJ should you link to it here somewhere? In the filled prompts post? As a comment to the prompt you filled?

Re: probably a dumb question but...

(Anonymous)
Both! Make it easy to find.

A long shot but hope springs eternal...

Anyone know of a transcription of Benedict on Alan Carr's show on Jan 24th? My vid player is not being kind otherwise I'd just watch on youtube lol.

What do the British call an ATM machine? And how much money can you get out of one in a single go.

Re: Brit pick question:

(Anonymous)
Cash point, cash machine, ATM, hole-in-the-wall... those are the ones which spring to mind. Or occasionally 'bank', or just saying 'I need to get some money out' (people guess you're not really going to the actual bank, just a cashpoint, or that if you need money, that you'll get it from a cash machine.)

And it used to be £250, usually, but that could have changed in the days since I last had £250...

Recs please

(Anonymous)
Hi!

I was hoping that you lovely people could recommend John H/C.
The amount of Sherlock H/C is overwhelming, but I am a true fan of John H/C.

I am looking for anything from cold/flu to clinging to life. Death fic is also fine by me.

Besides the extreme thanks in my part, you will also be keeping me sane as I am in physical recovery.

Thank you!!

Re: Recs please

(Anonymous)
Just to clarify, you want John to be on the receiving end of the comforting?

John?

(Anonymous)
I'm curious. I've seen memers who aren't overly fond of Sherlock, but is there anyone else who doesn't really like John? I love Martin Freeman, I love the original John Watson, and, objectively, I can appreciate that he's well acted and well written ... but I don't like him. Anyone feel the same?

Re: John?

(Anonymous)
tbh I'm the same. I just. I get that he's nice, and he's complicated, and there's alot to him, and that Freeman does an awesome job. ButI watch, and I like the lines but...I just. IDGI.

Collaborative effort?

Would anyone here be interested in writing a BSG crossover fic together? I would love to share some thoughts on how the two canons can combine.

Re: Collaborative effort?

Well, I'd love to read a BSG crossover...

britpick question

(Anonymous)
What do you call soft cookies ( such as these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_cookie ) in the UK? I was thinking "biscuit", except that these are soft cookies, and the impression I got was that "biscuit" only referred to the crispy/hard ones.

Re: britpick question

That's a biscuit. There are some types of biscuit that are sold with the name cookie e.g. Chocolate Cookies in Sainsburys but we'll still call them all biscuits.

Beta/Brit Picker Request

I posted this to sherlockbbc but haven't found any takers for the brit picking/grammar check portion of the request. So I'll try here as well. This is for a fill on part III, by the way.

I'm looking for a beta/brit picker for a multi-part fic. It's a Sherlock (BBC)/Wallander (BBC) crossover with a Lestrade/Wallander pairing. Parts will range from PG-13 to NC-17. The first part's done and ready for review (~3000 words), second is in progress, and there will probably be 5 in all.

I'm primarily looking for a copy-edit review & brit picking, but would also welcome thoughts on characterization, narrative voice, flow, etc. It would be great if you were familiar with Kenneth Branagh's portrayal of Wallander, though that's not a requirement. If you want to watch an episode or two to get the flavor of it I can provide links. Please comment here if you're interested.

Thanks!

Re: Beta/Brit Picker Request

(Anonymous)
That sounds really interesting and cool, and I imagine I could help with Brit picking and grammar if no one else better offers. I am however, not from the south of England, so my grammar and slang may be slightly non-standard. I haven't actually seen any of Kenneth Branagh's Wallander, but I have seen some of both versions of the Swedish ones, so I would be very much influenced by them, so I am not in anyway ideal.

I just started a Firefly kink meme under this username - I figure it's long overdue.
Anyway, if you're interested, please join, and spread the word to anyone who might be interested. And people who aren't interested. Pretty much anyone. Tell Sherlock if you'd like.
Thanks!

So, I have this thing where, any time there's mention of Sherlock playing the violin without specifying the music, I hear Brahms' Hungarian Dance #5 in my head.

In any canon, it's always Hungarian Dance #5. It's not that I particularly like it, or hate it or anything. It's just there, filed under "violin". Which is weird, because AFAIK none of the violinists I know have ever played it.

Anyone else have a problem like that?

No, but that's because I decided that Sherlock's learning Faery's Air and Death Waltz

Sexuality

(Anonymous)
So, regardless of shipping preferences, what, in your personal head!canon, are the sexual identities of the Sherlock characters?

Maybe it's all the fic getting to me but I see John as bi, or at least very bi curious. Sherlock... I don't see him asexual so much as he'd like to be asexual and maybe it's self imposed (no disrespect or offense intended to anyone who is asexual). I see him as having a fluid sexuality (that sounds way more gross than I meant for it too lol) in that he is attracted to a person's intelligence before their "transport". Lestrade... much as I love me some Mystrade, I always think of him as het. Molly, too. Mycroft... now him, I see as asexual in my own personal headcanon. Just because...well, just because I do, lol. Donovan...het but maybe bicurious. Anderson...het all the way.
