This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

Love for ACD Canon

(Anonymous)
Inspired by the post above: what's your favorite Holmes story (or stories), and why?

I have to go with Charles Augustus Milverton, because

1. It's basically about SHERLOCK HOLMES COMMITTING BURGLARY.
2. Watson is a BAMF.
3. Holmes is in top snarky form (seriously, there are so many hilarious one-liners in this story. For example, Lestrade asks for help with the case and gives a description of one of the burglars. Holmes' response: "That's rather vague. Why, that could be a description of Watson!")

Re: Love for ACD Canon

(Anonymous)
Hound of the Baskervilles, no contest. The atmosphere is just so frickin CREEPY - the fog and the moor and the Grimpen mire and the ancient legend about a gigantic demonic dog(!).

Someone had a prompt on some meme somewhere (one of the Sherlock ones) with Sherlock having a child, with whom he had seen 'The Princess Bride,' and thus figured out the logical reveal of Study in Pink.

Does anyone know where it might be?

Mycroft kink meme. Real?

(Anonymous)
God. I've spent two hours looking for the Mycroft kink meme I saw mentioned in passing somewhere. Does it really exist? Am I delusional? Have my google-fu failed me? Was it all a dream?

Anybody?

As long as we are in a reccing mood, I yearn for John as a bottom. It's like this crazy craving. John with anyone, male, female. John getting pegged is great. Con, non-con, so long as it's John getting it up the butt.

Thank you guys.

Hello Mary Sue, Goodbye, Heart (Or Rather 'Good Bye, Pride')

(Anonymous)
Here's one of those 'Thank God this is anonymous' question threads.

Please be as truthful as possible. Many of us are fan fiction writers, most quite proficient and imaginative. We wouldn't dream of creating a Mary or Gary Stu to insert in our writing.

But...

In the dark of night, nestled in bed, drowsy, safe, days worries over, tucked away in your secret heart of hearts, the place you hide embarrassingly personal things, TMIs, 'Thank God no one saw that!,' what is the ongoing Mary/Gary Stu fantasy Sherlock and yourself star in, the fantasy you pull out to entertains yourself until you nod off to sleep?

Or entertain yourself on your commute to work?

Or drown out the blah, blah, blah-ing of a co-worker's ongoing personal saga or the third useless seminar you were required to attend?

The fantasy that will never see the light of day? Or the printed page?

Mine is so embarrassing that I'm going to trot out, "Tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.'

But if no one bites, I'll tell shamefacedly recount mine to get the ball rolling.

But, please, oh please, tell yours!

Anonymously, of course!

Re: Hello Mary Sue, Goodbye, Heart (Or Rather 'Good Bye, Pride')

(Anonymous)
er, well, last night I had a very, ah, sexy dream that involved Sherlock. I don't know how much more Mary Sue/self insert you can get, other than to actually write it down.

Molly recs?

(Anonymous)
I know there are a lot of prompts (and fills, I imagine) of Dark!Molly & I'm not knocking them, but in my headcanon, Molly is a really sweet person who just has absolutely rotten luck with men.

So, anyone have any good recs for good!Molly? Really, Molly reeling from TGG is what I'm curious to see.

Thank you! ♥

"You've Hurt My Watson"

(Anonymous)
Hello all,

Which is the story where Sherlock utters the above line?

Thank you!

Story is "The Three Garridebs;" semi-spoilers

(Anonymous)
He never actually utters that exact line, but the story that Moffat and Gatiss are talking about in the commentary is "The Three Garridebs."

What he actually says boils down to Count yourself lucky you're a bad shot, you bastard, because if you had killed Watson you would not have left this room alive.

I always thought it was a fairly interesting insight into Holmes' character that the most touching, sincere declaration of affection that he makes towards Watson is a threat to murder someone in cold blood. :)

I've just finished reading the ACD stories and was wondering if there are any other Sherlock Holmes books that people can recommend?

I've got 'The Seven Per Cent Solution' on my to-read list, but is there anything else I should keep an eye out for? :D

The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, a collection of short stories, some of them with fantasy/science fiction elements, some straight-up mysteries. I recently wrote a lengthier rec for this book here, but for now let me just state that it contains a fabulous crack story with dinosaurs and a story that addresses the interests of Holmes/Watson slashers.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy slash?

(Anonymous)
So, one of BC's upcoming projects is "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," in which he portrays the character, Guillam. Well, I just read it and came across this little gem of a moment:

"Turning him to the wall, Guillam lifted ------'s unresisting hands and put them against it, then searched for a gun, taking his time."

Attention BC and "getting frisked" fans: Ben will be in a film in which his frisking another man is CANON!

Ok, so it's an incredibly small moment but the image has not been able to leave me and I now cannot wait to see this film!

Does anyone know where I might be able to find TTSS slash? Or even just non-slashfanfic?

Re: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy slash?

(Anonymous)
There are two good slash stories up at Archive of Our Own, both worth a read, especially One Marvellous Man: http://archiveofourown.org/tags/Tinker%20Tailor%20Soldier%20Spy%20-%20John%20Le%20Carre/works

But, most importantly, there's Misc. Papers, Haydon Family, BL Accession No. CQ8421183a by Sarah T. (http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/5/miscpapers.html). It is one of my favorite pieces of fic, from any fandom. (Possible oversell? But I am very fond of it).

Quick question:

(Anonymous)
What is Anderson's job? Is he a medical examiner? Or something else?

Forensics technician. Possibly in charge of their forensics department, I'm not sure on that part though.

From an unrepentant gossip hound

(Anonymous)
Trolling the internet for Cumberbatch gossip, I found this:

http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/laurie-penny/2010/08/sherlock-holmes-british

I'm from the US, no real clue what 'New Statesman' is about. Glancing at the site, it seems to be politically left, based on a magazine that may have had reverence but has seen better days.

A big clue is this epitome of self-important columnist who pens a self conscious, cliche blog entitled, 'Pop culture and radical politics with a feminist twist.' Reminds me of my twenties, first reading some Howard Zinn, discovering Women's Studies, then the ne plus ultra, Queer Studies.

Then having to get a 'real' job to actually support myself. And entertaining myself on the weekend by trolling the internet for gossip concerning an actor I've recently found myself fancying.

The writer's arguing that the Sherlock Holmes genre is outdated, old hat, there are new stories to be told..." the maverick detective's deeply felt superiority to women, to people from other nations and to the "criminal classes" is an intrinsic part of the stories"...all the reasons she feels I should be ashamed, a traitor to my leftist, feminist beliefs for loving this series.

But I don't feel that debasement.

As another beloved, elitist male tv character, Jeff Winger from 'Community' put it, I don't feel degraded as a lower class woman for enjoying BBC Sherlock for 'the same reason I floss, have a bed frame, and keep my guitar in its case. I'm over 23.'

On to the fun part, the gossip.

In the lengthy comments section, she argues back and forth w/her readers. At one point she writes, "And I do fancy Benedict Cumberbatch despite myself, although my theatre-producer housemate claims he's very annoying in person."

And never mentions it again. Annoying? How? I need to know! How could someone who aspires to journalism leave their readers hanging like that? A salacious comment w/no back up?

I even left a message urging her on (I'm 'Joan of Art' as if you couldn't tell.) and have heard nothing.

I cry bullshit.

Re: From an unrepentant gossip hound

I just got pissed off at her constant use of Holmes instead of Sherlock. IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY.

This article reminds me about when I found this massive rant on LJ about how sexist Firefly was, and how Joss Whedon was clearly an evil woman-hating mandemon. My expression whilst reading both of these could be summed up thusly:

?

?

:[

Not sure if there's a more appropriate place to post 'fic hunts. If there is, please let me know?

Anyway, I was just skimming through my notes on my ipod, and came across a few ideas I sketched out for prompts. I've managed to track down the original prompts for most of them, but this one's got me stuck. If I bookmarked it, I clearly didn't label it well. Or maybe 200 bookmarked prompts is just a few too many for me to find anything amongst, IDK.

It was asking for the reactions of Scotland Yard when the discovered the transgender history of Lestrade's wife, Kim Foyle (from Different for Girls). I don't know whether it's been filled or not, but either way, if anyone could direct me towards it, or even if anyone remembers what part it was posted in, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The thread was actually frozen, but

Help, meme! What are sweatpants called in England? Google is yielding nothing...

Tracksuit bottoms?

Dunno if anyone around here is a fan of the Robert Downey Jr/Jude Law/Guy Ritchie etc Sherlock Holmes film. I am--it is completely different from our BBC Sherlock, and, yeah, canon-wise I don't see Sherlock as quite as flirty as RDJ plays him, but I do adore Jude Law's Watson.

Anyway...

Somewhat of a humorous SPOILER for the upcoming sequel.

Hear that? Spoiler!

Still with me?
Apparently RDJ's gonna be spending some time in drag. Apparently Entertainment Tonight's running a sneak preview later this week.
Fromt he rally low-res youtube rip of the preview (yeah,t hat's some desperate viewing right there) he looks a bit silly, but, hey. Any Sherlock in drag makes me happy. And add that to the massive amount of sexual tension with him and Watson, and my heart goes *guh*.

The link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmbZRN-0FaQ&feature=player_embedded
But it might be better to wait for the actual tv spot.

I have to wonder, is the cross-dressing really necessary (not that I'm complaining) or just a way to mess with the slash-fans?

What does Molly do for a living? I know she works in the morgue but as what exactly? Is she a coroner?

She's a 'tiny little mortuary attendant' according to an insulted Sherlock in a fic I read yestreday!

(OMG Mycroft just gave me the surname of the guy I have a crush on as captcha.)
