This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

Favorite unfilled prompts?

(Anonymous)
So many great prompts go unfilled, unnoticed. The way we speed through these posts it's hard to keep up with them.

What are your favorite unfilled prompts from prompt post 1?

Re: Favorite unfilled prompts?

(Anonymous)
I'm going to have to hunt up a list later when I'm not at work. This is an excellent idea.

Filling in closed prompts?

(Anonymous)
I know some people just reprompt in the current section and fill there, especially on the prompts that are particularly near closing.

But I get paranoid that the OP is going to miss it. So I fill in the post where the initial prompt happened. I think more people don't do that because they are worried people won't see their prompt.

Is here an appropriate place to say, "Hey, I'm filling x prompt so check out prompt six?" If so how would it work? One thread with responses below for all posts? A post for each prompt post?

I can't really think how to work it.

Thoughts?

And maybe it's not even needed. I just hate the idea that OPs are missing their fills because they are looking for them in the original place.

Re: Filling in closed prompts?

(Anonymous)
I fill on the original, and about half the time the OP doesn't see it, or doesn't comment as OP if they do. It's usually a safe assumption that if a prompt doesn't get filled in a week or two it's not going to get filled, so a lot of people probably don't go back and check constantly, especially if they've posted lots of prompts. I've pinned the four prompts I've posted (none ever filled, sadly) but I think I'm out of the norm both because I can pin, and because I only have four prompts (there must be people with dozens and dozens) and I really want them filled.

If they care about the prompt, though, they may (or should) check the delicious tags periodically. I think the mods do want fills posted to the original prompt unless it's in a closed section, but you'd have to ask to clarify that.

Getting The Erotic Shivers

(Anonymous)
What gives you the good kind of shivers when reading a kink meme fill?

The kind of thing that makes you dazed for a few seconds, shiver all over and have to reread those sentences again?

A never-fail for me is when John, Lestrade, fill in the sexual partner first sees Sherlocks naked body, the author writes a well crafted description of said body, then John, Lestrade, fill in the sexual partner exclaims, especially in hushed tones, for some reason, "You are beautiful!"

or "lovely"

or "gorgeous"

You get the idea. Makes me go all dreamy eyed even though I wouldn't describe myself as particularly romantic.

I'm interested to hear my fellow kink memers shiver inducers, please.

Re: Getting The Erotic Shivers

(Anonymous)
For me, as geeky as it sounds, it's an AU.

I just love seeing characters in new situations and acting in different ways (It's the reason I got into fanfic and then fandom in the first place) And if I see a crossover that's well written? I squee. I squee hard. (ATM, I'm riding on a combined squee from the Howl's Moving Castle xover and the Tamora Pierce xover from previus posts)

Also, for some reason, kid fic. In any other fandom, I hate kidfic. But for some reason, Sherlock being a good father just pushes me just right.

For the actual writing itself? I love when there's a build up, with plot, to the sex. And even then when the sex is more about thoughts and sensations than actual pornage.

What have you learned?

(Anonymous)
Have you learned anything about yourself on this meme?

One thing I loved about this meme is that I'm discovering a little bit more about my own sexuality. At this point, I'm pretty sure I'm either demisexual or asexual, but I never really knew until I found so much discussion on the topic, both by asexual and non-sexual people.

This meme has also made me a better writer, and given me new ways to look at writing.

Re: What have you learned?

(Anonymous)
I've learned to accept that I'm basically a short-fill writer and I should develop that instead of angsting about not being able to write multichapter epics.

When you guys picture Harry, what does she look like?

In my head, she's butch and looks a fair bit like Rachel Maddow (au natural Rachel, not the way she's done up for the camera)

Wow, I'm going to adopt your view cause that is way way way cooler than what I as picturing.

hey, i was wondering if anyone could help me find a prompt (pretty sure it's still unfilled), it's about young sherlock (about 8 i think) who has sex with an eight year old girl and is sent away. The prompt was based on a book. I've tried searching for it on the filled prompt post but the phrases i put in don't come up with anything.

Thank you in advance

Oh my gosh guys this guy came into my work the other day and he looked just like the cab driver from Sherlock. He was making his order and my partner was helping me get it ready but I just stood there making this face -> 0.0
until it became awkward and obvious I was staring, but I couldn't stop! He didn't have a accent and I barely restrained myself from yelling 'you can stop pretending, I know it's you!' and other such things like warning the lady not to take any meds from the guy.

Halfway through the order I realized I had started to edge away from before my brain kicked in and I started to act like a normal person. Naturally I couldn't tell anyone at work why I started to act insane so I had to bring it to you guys.

There's an insurance broker in an office nearby that looks like Moriarty if the light's bad and he's not got glasses on.

the pit of whine and cheese

(Anonymous)
The day's only half over where I am, it's utter shit, and I'm stuck at work with a bad case of low-grade anxiety attacks and a shouty boss. I need a very large, very strong drink and a cuddle.

Anyone else care to join in?

Re: the pit of whine and cheese

(Anonymous)
Have a cuddle from me and I hope your day picks up and that your boss gets a sore throat and loses his/her voice.

I have exams approaching and I have done approximately NO revision. Am screwed.

Other fandoms

(Anonymous)
Out of curiosity, what other fandoms are people involved in?

Pretty much all of my fic is for Doctor Who, but I do read quite a bit Supernatural, Jeeves and Wooster, and Merlin. I also read stuff from ACD and Granada Holmes, it was reading that that got me interested in this version!

Re: Other fandoms

(Anonymous)
I read a lot of Book and Granada Holmes and a lot of Jeeves and Wooster. Currently I´m not active in any fandons, but I used to write a lot of House/Wilson.

question

(Anonymous)
I'm going to live with my aunt who lives in London over the summer, and im super excited. But i had a question, should i try to use the UK versions of words like jumper (i call it a sweater...), or just not worry about it at all?

Re: question

(Anonymous)
I´m not a Londoner, not actually a native english-speaker, but I would say don´t worry. I´ve learned american english at school, then studied in London for a few months and never had any problems. Of course, if you´re moving there permanently you´ll pick up the british terms naturally. But in the meantime nobody´s gonna complain.

Re: question (Anonymous) Expand
I glanced though the male sexuality post in this section but didn't see an answer for my question.

Why are so many anal sex scenes written face to face. I'm a chick but watching guy on guy porn that position is rare and always looks odd and uncomfortable to me.

Is it because we women write most slash and we usually are face to face? We prefer the intimacy?

I'm not complaining. I guess I am because it takes me out off the story a second to think, 'Ow. Bet that feels uncomfortable. Hope they do stretches and lunges before and after.'

I always wonder how come the bottom's balls don't get in the way in that position... is it some physical thing I don't know about? I mean, if you were folded back far enough, so your arse is pretty much sticking straight up, then maybe they'd fall towards the front, but otherwise... IDEK.

Also, yeah, it does look like it's one for the gymnasts :-)

John's specialty?

(Anonymous)
Does the BBC canon ever give John a specialty? He seems to be working as a GP, but I was under the impression that he was overqualified for the job.

Re: John's specialty?

(Anonymous)
I don't recall the BCC giving him a specific specialism. I would guess that being deployed in theatre means he'd be qualified in emergency medicine/trauma, but he might be a surgeon? That would make more sense with him being invalided out - the oarmy currently des seem to be making an effort to retain even badly injured soldiers who want to continue to serve.

The RAMC provides the option for all of their Medical Officers to train as GPs if they choose.

Re: John's specialty? (Anonymous) Expand
is John right or left handed?

I don't *think* it's mentioned explicitly, but Martin Freeman is left-handed, and John appears to have inherited his leftiness :-)

(Deleted comment)
This might be a slightly silly question, and quite probably not at all the most appropriate place to post it, so sorry in advance. But this whole thing about falling in love. People can't control it, can they? Otherwise there'd never be a problem with unrequited love, as surely people wouldn't consciously chose to fall in love with someone who didn't already love them. And people never negotiate their romantic feelings in stories, it just happens. So is that how it works in real life? People just fall in love.

Pretty much. It's a bit like having God slip you something that makes you high for about 6 months. If you are lucky, you also learn to love the person (as well as being in love with them)during that time. It's awful when it's not mutual.
