This is a place for all sorts of off-topic discussion.

You can post anon or un-anon, per your personal preference, as usual.

All I ask is that you stay civil and (hopefully) friendly.

If you also want to use this thread to try to find a beta for a fic, or ask a brit-pick-ish question, I think that would be an acceptable use. Have fun!

I have never done cocaine. Have any of you? Care to share your experiences? I can't write Sherlock-on-cocaine without getting some input to at least appear as if I've done my research.

This site is very good for getting experiences of all sorts of substances.

I've given you the link to coke, but they have everything I've ever wanted to look up.

Autoerotic asphixiation vs other ways of passing out

(Anonymous)
Some people seem to have really cool experiences/sensation while on the verge of passing out and others don't. I don't think this discussion belongs on the rant post, but I'd love to hear more people's experiences of what they've seen under different circumstances (not necessarily auto erotic). It might make for more realistic scenes.

Re: Autoerotic asphixiation vs other ways of passing out

(Anonymous)
I've never passed out, but I had a period (lasting for about a year) a couple of years back when I'd slightly black-out for a second or so and collapse once a month because of what probably was low blood-pressure and hormones, and standing up suddenly/rising from a crouch/stretching for something high up would mostly be the cause of it.

Before I blacked out, I'd feel like I was falling, even thought I wasn't (yet), and I would see streaks of light that were really similar to when they go into hyperspace in Star Wars, like shooting out from the center-point of my vision, but mine would either flash in white, yellow or orange. I'd see this even if my eyes were shut. I also felt some pressure on my breastbone (?? not english-speaker but the part beneath your collar-bone but above your beasts) and I would feel tingles at the back of my ears and my neck, sometimes running down my back. My hearing would also grow slightly muffled, as if the sounds around me blended together. Then it would go black and I'd come to again while falling down and catching myself on reflex.

Basically the world outside myself grew dim and what I foremost perceived was myself and my body; limbs, breathing, thoughts. Very self-centered. Some of the sensations were pleasant, like the tingling down my ears and neck and the feeling of falling, but my mind knew what was coming and it was frightening to loose control of my body like that. And there's some really dirty floors you don't want to land on...

Hope this was to some help. I haven't written every sensation there was, because that would be too much text, but feel free to ask if there's something more you want to know.

Yes. HELLO EVERYONE.
Someone talk to me while my nail polish is drying! :D
:)

How did you find out about Sherlock BBC, anyways?
I stumbled upon a fanart (Check it out! and then looked for it on the Internet. After that, I was lost... *sigh*

Re: Dümdüm.

(Anonymous)
I found out about Sherlock when prompts involving it started popping up on the other meme. Because I spend 99.9% of my life on kink memes, apparently. I like to think of it as a benign addiction.

What colour is your nail polish? :D

looking for a fic!

(Anonymous)
There's a fic that I'm pretty sure I read in this comm, but I've gone through all the prompt posts and haven't found it again. It's one where Moriarty insists on meeting with John Watson once a month. And for nearly a year, they just have tea together, but it goes downhill from there.

Any idea what fic it could be? I've gone through the Moriarty tags on delicious, and in the sherlockbbc comm, and can't find it.

Thanks!

Re: looking for a fic!

(Anonymous)
It sounds slightly familiar. Have you tried the fic search comm? I think it's sherlock_search but I could be wrong.

If you could have a character for the evening, who would it be, and what would you do with him/her?

Re: Woo hoo!

(Anonymous)
Pretty sure everyone is gonna go for the obvious ones so I'm gonna be different and say Mrs Hudson. We'd have EPIC COOKING SESSIONS and talk about how nice it is to be motherly over people, tsking that our respective pseudo-children just don't eat enough, and have sneaky I-look-more-innocent-than-I-am gossip sessions about the people we have living in our flats.

WHOA MYCROFT HAS FOUND A SCONE FORMULA. HE COULD COME AND BAKE WITH US TOO!

THE NINETY-NINE PROBLEMS

(Anonymous)
...our memers are having in their lives today.

1. I'm getting married on Tuesday and my family disproves.
2. All the food in this apartment is making me into a Fatcroft.
3. My little brother refuses to address his letters to Santa as "Dear Jim"
4. Oh god, I need to go Christmas shopping and it's probably too late to order online

Re: THE NINETY-NINE PROBLEMS

(Anonymous)
I refuse to depress people with my own real world problems, but my fandom problem is not enough time to write, and not enough attention span to concentrate on writing one thing at a OOO LOOK SPARKLES!!!

I don't know how many of you follow A Softer World, but the latest one is perfect and needs to be shared <3

FAVOURITE MEME QUOTES, FROM ALL POSTS, COMMENTS OR FIC, POST THEM HERE AND INCLUDE A LINK BACK. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE SOMEONE WILL MAKE ICONS!!

We did have an iconer, but I stopped paying attention the kink meme and Sherlock fandom lately so maybe we don't have one anymore. Anyways!

How long have the lovely anons been involved in fandom?

I've been in fandom for the last eight years or so (since I was thirteen), in opposition to the friend who I introduced to fandom around September time this year. Is there anyone here who has experience of fandom pre-internet? Of usenet and mailing list? Curious anon (who, yes, wrote a dissertation on this) is curious.

Uphill both ways in the rain

(Anonymous)
I've been fannish for 30 years.

What was it like? Hiding what you were reading, or secretly reading it between the shelves at the library because "girls don't read things like that dear, have another book about cheerleaders and babysitters instead".

Pre-personal computer. Pre-internet. APA-zines. Snail-mail mailing lists. Clubs. Quarterly hand-bound fanzines. Filk songs. Lying to your peers about what shows you watch and what you're writing stories about. Conventions with no actors at them, run by fans for fans, that were the best thing ever because these were finally your people and they understood.

Bulletin Board Systems. Dial up. VAX terminals. Mailing lists. Watching sci-fi changing from "those weird books boys are allowed to like" to the premise of a large percentage of mainstream entertainment media. Usenet (rec.arts.drwho "QUOTEFILE!"), MUDs and MUSHes, the Web, Forums and fansites, Livejournal....

There's a space station in the sky that is the cooperative effort of countries that at one point we were certain would tear the world apart. I've been dreaming of cyberspace since I was 12, and now it's practically real.

Fandom as both a culture and a concept has exploded with the advent of the Internet and social networking. The internet was made for fandom, but it was sort of made from fandom too. :)

Heh. Sorry, I got carried away, but that's what fandom does.

What's your native language, meme?

(Anonymous)
Just wondering how many of us are ESL. You see, figure skating was the last major fandom I was involved in before gravitating back to Sherlock Holmes and its fanbase covered a great number of nationalities. It's made me wonder if it was simply more obvious there because of the competition aspect (especially during the Olympics) or if it really was exceptional.

Curious!anon's mother tongue is Dutch, if you were wondering.

Re: What's your native language, meme?

(Anonymous)
I'm an ESL too, and not a very fluent one at that, which is why I don't write fics. I can't even write well in my native language, probably because I'm an intensely visual person.

Also, I've had some difficulties understanding the English spoken in British shows thanks to the ubiquity of American entertainments in my (non English-speaking) home country... all English accents other than standard American sounded like completely different languages to my ears. Anyone else had this problem?
